My name is Barry Thomas better know as "Baz." I'm a the owner of Crag 2 Mountain and Lead Instructor.
I've been mountaineering all over the world for the past 15 years and have operated in the artic, desert and jungle environments as a Former Royal Marines Commando.
Climbing and Mountaineering was always a part of my military career. Although, after sustaining an injury whilst serving on operations, climbing became my recovery. It was through my recovery that climbing stopped being part of my military career and became my hobby, my life style and my passion. Climbing gave me a new focus and an environment to challenge myself both mentally and physically. I loved being outdoors, discovering new places and the freedom of being in the mountains. It provided me with a sense of freedom, appreciation and peace.
I joined my local Mountaineering Club "South Devon Mountaineering" and I started to volunteer at my local climbing wall as a kids climbing instructor on a Saturday mornings. I really enjoyed instructing and coaching and I found it rewording. From this I decided to take it further and I embarked on gaining National Qualifications along side my military adventurous training qualifications.
I currently hold the following qualifications:
Climbing Wall Award (CWA)
Climbing Wall Abseil Award (CWAA)
Climbing Wall Leading Award (CWLA)
Single Pitch Award (SPA)
Mountain Leader Summer Award (MLs)
Foundation Climbing Coach Award (FCA)
Local Cave & Mine Leader Level 2 (LCML Lv2)
Single Rope Technique Qualified (SRT)
REC Mountain First Aid Trained
BMC FUNdamentals of Climbing 1 & 2
Safeguarding & Child Protection
Mountain Leader Winter Award (MLw) Training
Mountain Instructor Award (MIA) Training
Then, in 2013 I set up our business. I also became a provider of the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) and Mountain Training Hill & Mountain Skills Scheme.
I set up the business to provide myself with a new focus but also to inspire others to enjoy adventure and benefit from the outdoors like I have. It is my aim to make adventure activities accessible and affordable for everyone. I believe that everyone, of any age, from all backgrounds and all abilities should be able to enjoy the fantastic benefits that outdoors adventures offer. All adventure activities offer the chance to improve mental and physical wellbeing. They also build on teamwork, responsibility and determination; as well as your ability to overcome obstacles, your confidence and give you a massive sense of achievement.
